How to choose AWS region 

 

Compliance :  with data governmace and legal requirements data never leaves a region without your explicit permission.

Proximity : to customers : reduce latency (less lag)

Available services : within a Region : new services and new features arent available in every region.

Pricing : pricing varies regions to region and is transparent in the service pricing page.

 

each region has many availabilities zones

(usually 3, min is 3 and max is 6)

e.g

ap - japan - 2a , ap - japan - 2b ap - japan - 2c

 

Each availability zone (AZ) is one or more discrete data centers with redundant power, networking and connectivity

They are separate from each other, so that they are isolated from disaters.
